Pistachio Croissant from Caffe Del Teatro
I’ve always been a morning person, so it’s no surprise that breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I love waking up early and spending some time with myself before tackling my daily tasks. In college, I typically start my morning with a simple piece of toast or some oatmeal with fruit, which are two breakfasts that I can quickly whip up while requiring minimal effort. Unfortunately, I also have a pretty bad caffeine addiction, so it’s safe to say I never skip out on my morning cup of coffee.
I was really excited to carry on my morning “me-time” in Italy by getting the chance to explore the many different coffee shops and bakeries in my new home. Each one has something special to offer, from freshly baked pastries to sharp and bitter espresso.
Out of the many places I’ve tried in these last two weeks, Caffe Del Teatro has to be my favorite. This quaint coffee shop is located right around the corner from the Annex, which is conveniently located where OU students take their classes. The cafe has a wide variety of pastries that, according to the owner, are baked fresh each morning. One particular day, I made the daring decision to order something I’d never tried before: a pistachio croissant. Of course, I had to order a cappuccino too.
"The best way to start my day!" - Emma Spake
The croissant had a flakey, buttery crust dusted in powdered sugar with a warm center filling of green pistachio cream. It was sweet and nutty, which truly elevated the croissant from your typical breakfast pastry. Each bite had the perfect ratio of sweet filling to crispy crust–definitely an upgrade from my typical morning piece of toast. Sitting outside on the cafe’s patio and enjoying my breakfast in the pleasant weather truly made this experience one to remember. My morning routine may look a little different in Italy, but I think it’s safe to say I’m loving it.
