A Delicious Detox

Fresh Pressed Juice from Crepes de Lune

If there’s one thing that Italians love, it’s carbs. After my second week in Arezzo, I was feeling a little sluggish from the heavy pizza and pasta dishes I was having for each meal. Don’t get me wrong, every single dish I’ve tried in Arezzo has been delicious. But after two weeks, my friends and I felt we needed a little detox.

One afternoon, as we were wandering around Arezzo, we stumbled upon Crepes de Lune, a quaint little bistro that was nestled along a small pedestrian street. The bistro was bright and airy, with crates of fresh fruit lining the walls. I was immediately struck by the restaurant's incredible aroma. It was obvious that delicious crepes, both sweet and savory, were being made fresh just behind the kitchen doors.

Despite its name, Crepes de Lune sells fresh salads, fruit cups, smoothies and juices. However, the main star of the show is their freshly-made juice. After a particularly long day of classes, I decided a fresh juice would be just the thing I needed to get back on my feet. I scanned the menu and decided to order the “detox” juice, which was made with apples, ginger, celery and lemon. I watched in amazement as the workers prepared the drink right in front of my eyes. She plucked the ingredients from the crates behind the counter and placed them one-by-one into the juicer. The machine made quick work of the ingredients, crushing them up into a bright green liquid. The juice tasted amazing. The fresh apple provided a nice base flavor, and the zesty ginger added an element of spice that left my mouth with a refreshing tingling sensation. I loved the way that the citrusy lemon flavor gave the juice an acidic taste. The acidity counteracted the sweet taste of the apple, giving the juice a nice sense of balance.

It was so satisfying to physically see the juice being made with clean ingredients right after you ordered it. I could distinctly taste the freshness of the ingredients, unlike the prepackaged pressed juices I buy back home in Texas. I highly recommend visiting Crepes de Lune if you're searching for a drink that will make you feel energized and unstoppable!
