Dirty Chai from Coffee O'Clock
It’s no secret that Italians are avid coffee drinkers. From sweet, foamy cappuccinos to rich espresso shots, there are a wide range of caffeinated beverages to try in Arezzo. The summer heat in Texas is no joke, so I typically opt for an iced coffee instead of a hot one. Unfortunately, it’s not so easy to find iced coffee drinks in Italy that are so popular in America.
There is one spot that offers a wide range of iced beverages: Coffee o’Clock. Almost every cafe I have been to in Arezzo hasn’t offered iced coffee, so saying I was excited to finally see it on their menu might be an understatement.
I’ve tried lots of the drinks on the cafe’s menu, but my favorite so far has to be their dirty chai. This unique drink packs quite a punch, offering an interesting blend of chai tea, milk, and a single shot of espresso. The spices in the chai tea really shine through and tingle your mouth with each sip. The shot of espresso darkens the color of the drink and gives it a rich, earthy flavor. I love adding an extra shot of espresso to mine, but that's just because I have a bit of a caffeine addiction.
Lastly, the milk serves as a uniting factor, mellowing out the harsh flavors of the chai and espresso. Drinking an iced coffee is a completely different experience than a hot drink. The flavors are much easier to identify and appreciate when they are accompanied by ice. If you are looking for a way to cool down on a hot, Italian morning, give Coffee o'Clock’s dirty chai a try!
